    Homo Icarus Contemporalis

    June 10, 2017

I had a chance to observe Encounters with a humanoid robot at Helsinki fair centre. After the statement, that a whole library disappears when a knowledgeable old person dies, my gaze caught a teddy bear and child’s shoes. A little owner of the stuff probably was busy with more interesting children’s things than a BINA48 and Bruce Duncan's talk show. Suddenly I felt a weird solitude as the abandoned teddy bear toy.
Technologies are able to fuse sounds with visual images and then convert to intangible things. Sadly things mean different things to different people. What is about emotions? How many feelings, sentiments, instincts, intuitions, heart disappear when an old person dies? Is it possible to merge the human warm to the intangible image in future such as handwritten dedications on old photographs?

02:19 min. length of my moving images work consists of 4 inherited retro photographs (1915-1936); 71 both analogue and digital camera made images from my archives (1999-2017). Dandelions’ wings are my personal creation.

    The Life

Eurika Balsyte-Ojakoski is a self-taught amateur photographer and researcher of a vanishing time. She merges her Fine Art teacher's experience with a passion for photography and tries to answer the question: Where does the time go? The pace of life is accelerating. She appreciates fragility and temporality of natural diversity which is so broad that quite often our imagination fails to surpass. Nowadays modern technology has a lot to beautify, but Eurika's observations remind about the fragility of authenticity. After all, the reality is as simple as daily bread, pure spring water or fresh air after rain as well. Is not it so?
In 2016 Eurika had a courage to sent her works to Jury of INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS competition. She was awarded Honorable Mention in Nature - Seasons for the winning entry Gems of wetlands.

    The spare time

When she is not writing CV's about herself in the third person and not struggling with Finnish language grammar in a learning process, Eurika enjoys singing in a multicultural chorus or hiking across wet forests in black rubber boots. She meditates when picking up lingonberries or mushrooms and adores all scents of the forest. Eurika makes a blueberry pie with love and grows organic tomatoes on her balcony as well. She appreciates good company and keeps good neighbourhood with squirrels.
In her spare time, Eurika photographs small wonders of a daily routine as wildlife and urban life as well. Despite her dislikes of graffiti she takes photos of it and supports the theory of broken windows.
